James from Bristol City fan podcast, BS3 Talk, chats about Bristol’s new boss, their transfer business and why he’s a fan of Lewis O’Brien in our latest match preview.
Three goals, three points, everything’s coming up Milhouse. The games just keep on coming for Huddersfield but what a victory it was on Saturday down in London. The 3-0 win against Millwall was arguably the most convincing result under Carlos Corberán and even if the two of the goals were in the last five minutes of the match, it’s hard to argue that The Terriers didn’t deserve it.
Our very own podcast host Matt Shaw is the founder of the Josh Koroma Fan Club, and if Koroma continues to play well and keeps finding the back of the net, then we’ll have to start making badges and t-shirts. Credit to Juninho Bacuna too for his super sub performance in this match as well, typical Bacuna, making us all shut up after he was criticised on the most recent podcast.
After the two disappointing defeats against Preston and Birmingham, to bounce back with a win away from home against a team that were fourth in the table is credit to Town’s squad and its new manager. Now, with the upcoming matches against Bristol City and Luton Town before the international break, it’s an opportunity for Huddersfield to build up momentum again and climb up the table.
The Terriers’ latest opponents, Bristol City, will be looking to end a disappointing run where they’ve failed to win in their last five league games, having started the season well. Huddersfield and Bristol have new managers in the dugout as opposed to last season, but both league matches in that 19/20 campaign were in hindsight, quite significant to Town.
The 5-2 defeat to Bristol at Ashton Gate in November 2019 prompted then boss Danny Cowley to provide a very frank post-match interview, in which he expressed his frustration at some of Huddersfield’s players who then didn’t play for the side again that season. Whereas the 2-1 win at home in February this year was arguably Town’s best game of the season, and it could have and probably should have been four or five goals for The Terriers on the night.
Danny Cowley’s gone now and so has Lee Johnson, so what is in store for us this Tuesday night on iFollow? Well to find out, James Cox, from Bristol City fan podcast, BS3 Talk, has provided And He Takes That Chance with the insight on new boss Dean Holden’s side, rated their transfer business and talks their strength and weaknesses.
Last time our two teams played each other last season, it was arguably Huddersfield’s best game of the campaign. What did you make of the game and what are you expecting from the game on Tuesday?
The away game last season was horrendous from City and was probably the worst it got in terms of performance. I can't imagine we'll see a better game on Tuesday night in terms of free-flowing football, but both clubs seem to be in a better place than they were last time out.
What are your general expectations for the season?
We started fantastically, winning our first four, but have yet to win since. It's a strange one, but Dean Holden's debut season would be considered a certain success if we finished in the top 10.
What have you made of Dean Holden’s start so far? From the outside, he seems to have made a good impression even if results haven’t happened recently.
As a human being, a term our Chief Exec Mark Ashton uses often, the man is outstanding. He's a proper football man and has made a great impression on the fanbase, with a footballing identity and refreshing honesty.
Which player from your current squad do you think will be one to watch this season?
Jamie Paterson started amazingly, but he is one that either blows hot or cold. Youngster Antoine Semenyo would be my one to watch though; a spritely forward with endless energy and a real bite.
Bristol signed a few players over the transfer window, have you been impressed with your business? Any of your new signings that you think will do well?
Our business was excellent, but we've already seen our Fulham loanees Mawson and S. Sessegnon get considerable injuries. Chris Martin on a free was a shrewd addition, while Joe Williams will surely turn out to be a good signing, even though we're yet to see him (due to injury).
Bristol City have a lot of former Huddersfield Town players in the squad. Jack Hunt, Jamie Paterson, Nakhi Wells, how have they performed for you so far this season? Are any of them particular fan favourites?
Pato has the potential to be one of the best creators in the league, but he's never properly found any consistency. Hunt is your average Championship full-back, whilst Wells was a great signing but has been on torrid form recently.
Is there anything Huddersfield need to be on the lookout for in this game?
Tyreeq Bakinson, who maybe I could've mentioned in my one to watch, has come out of absolutely nowhere to claim a first-team spot this season. He controls games from the middle of the park, with brute physicality, partnered with an unwavering ability to keep the football at his feet. He'll be plenty of work for the Terriers midfield to deal with.
What are Bristol’s weaknesses, is there anything Huddersfield can take advantage of?
Our defending recently has been woeful. We are playing a 3-5-2 with only three fit centre backs, two of which are youngsters that have never played consistent second-tier football.
What are your expectations for Huddersfield Town this season?
Huddersfield are one of a very select few that I'd personally say won't be worrying either end of the table. I'm a big Lewis O’Brien fan so I expect to see him fulfil his potential this season, but I hope you can find some consistency under the new manager.
What’s your score prediction for the game?
It won't be pretty, but I'll go for a 2-1 Bristol City win.
