It all started in May 2018 when Matt, increasingly fed up by the characterisation of Huddersfield Town in the national media, got on the blower to two of the most knowledgeable Town fans he knew. Later, after a number of rejections he finally called Neil and Kosi and a podcast was born. One month on legendary HTFCworld cartoonist Danny Gee would complete the quartet to add some pizzazz to the social media and video side of proceedings.
In August 2019 we welcomed on board writers Martin, Elliott, Morgan, Charlie, Nathan, Graeme and Brady as And He Takes That Chance expanded to become a fully fledged fansite.
The Team
Matt
@TTCMatt
FOUNDER AND PODCAST HOST
First game: 08/04/89 - Huddersfield Town 2-0 Mansfield Town
Grounds visited watching Town: 81
Cult Hero: Marcus Stewart / Darren Bullock.
Matt is a former goalkeeper (has he ever told anyone?) and 4th Generation Town Fan who previously started Town fansite HTFConline with Johnny in 2009, before it was merged with The Scarlet Runners blog to make Thrice Champions.
TAKES THAT FACT: Due to copyright issues around podcasting, the guitar music on the intro of Season 1 is from Matt’s failed Garage Band of 2007. Matt has previously worked in Academy and Pre Academy football as both a coach and scout for several years and sadly also sports a similar haircut to ex Town assistant Colin Bell…
Johnny
@TTCJohnnyh
FOUNDER AND DESIGNER
First game: 10/03/93 - Huddersfield Town 1-0 Fulham
Grounds visited watching Town: 75
Cult Hero: Phil Starbuck / Marcus Stewart
Johnny is a graphic/web designer currently based in Halifax. Matt likes to pretend to be friends with him purely to benefit from some free design work for the website and podcast but luckily Johnny enjoys creating the different graphics anyway.
TAKES THAT FACT: Johnny won the competition to design Town’s away shirt in the 2002/03 season.
Neil
@Bradfordterrier
PODCASTER AND DANGER DETECTER
First game: 20/09/80 - Huddersfield Town 1-0 Sheffield Utd
Grounds visited watching Town: 116
Cult Hero: Brian Stanton
Neil tried podcasting for the first time after he was persuaded by Matt to join And He Takes That Chance. It didn’t take long for The Chief of Whopper Watch to get his feet under the table and become a main contributor.
TAKES THAT FACT: Neil dedicates much of his spare time volunteering with both Andy’s Man Club and Huddersfield Street Kitchen. If you believe you can help with either of these two organisations, then Neil would love to hear from you.
Kosi
@Superkos
PODCASTER AND POST MATCH PODCAST HOST
First game: 01/01/83 - Huddersfield Town 6-3 Bradford City
Grounds visited watching Town: 79
Cult Hero: Ronnie Jepson
Wherever there has been a post match Huddersfield Town phone in there has been a call from Richard ‘Kosi’ Kosmala. A veteran of The Pulse, Radio Leeds and Radio Yorkshire phone ins, Kosi brings vast experience to the podcast, he’s the Gareth Barry of the group.
TAKES THAT FACT: In 1994 Kosi’s house was burgled whilst he was at Valley Parade watching Town secure an exciting 4-3 win. Rather than sulk, he went out on the lash to celebrate. The game that was, not the burglary.
Danny
@Htfcworld
PART TIME PODCASTER AND VIDEO CONTENT CREATOR
First game: 28/03/81 - Huddersfield Town 0-0 Chester City
Grounds visited watching Town: 100+
Cult Hero: Terry Curran
Perhaps the most infamous of the group, Danny has been creating online match reports and video content at htfc-world.com since the late 90s, but latterly can be found on Twitter fending off accusations of ironic virginity signalling from Sheffield Wednesday fans.
TAKES THAT FACT: Danny’s Htfc-world.com won the Radio 5 Live website of the season award in 2001 but it was never announced because Adrian Chiles enjoyed the sound of his own voice too much.
Simon
@Simoncoppi
PODCASTER
First game: 07/09/02 - Huddersfield Town 1-0 Barnsley
Grounds visited watching Town: 31
Cult Hero: Nico Vaesen
After badgering Matt for 12 months to get involved and then not having the time, Simon finally joined the gang for his first podcast in Episode 39. Simon immediately wowed the group by turning up with a notebook and having done something alien to the rest of us called ‘research”. He was quickly made a regular contributor.
TAKES THAT FACT: Simon is also an ex Goalkeeper and once got Man Of The Match despite a 15-1 defeat!
Elliot
@Elliothtafc
HEAD FEATURE WRITER
First game: 26/10/99 - Huddersfield Town 2-1 Barnsley
Grounds visited watching Town: 16
Cult Hero: Chris Löwe
Elliott founded Talk Of The Town in March 2017 and after building a successful readership is ready to take the next step with And He Takes That Chance. Elliott’s success has also been recognised by the Huddersfield Daily Examiner who have invited him to write a weekly column.
TAKES THAT FACT: Elliott is fluent in sign language. So he can do more than just fork the away fans from The South Stand.
MArtIn
@Gledholtsykes
CHIEF REPORTER
First game: 30/04/69 - Huddersfield Town 2-1 Blackburn
Grounds visited watching Town: 100+
Cult Hero: Ian Robins
White Rose Club regular Martin has built up a strong following having started writing match reports on the Huddersfield Town mailing lists in 1996, later graduating to his own site of https://townreports.wordpress.com. In August 2019, Martin agreed to bring his fantastic reports to And He Takes That Chance.
TAKES THAT FACT: Martin has seen Huddersfield Town against every opponent at over 100 grounds since 1969, but never against Coventry City.
Charlie
@Footballcharli3
FEATURE WRITER
First game: 12/08/95 - Huddersfield Town 0-0 Blackburn
Grounds visited watching Town: 12
Cult Hero: Danny Adams
Charlie started writing for The Sky Sports Fanzone back in 2008 and continued to do so for a couple of years after a hiatus.
TAKES THAT FACT: When Charlie worked at a petrol station he used to serve the bagpipe man, who plays his bagpipes outside the John Smiths Stadium on match day. He’d pay in all 5p’s!
Morgan
@Hotlinehtafc
FEATURE WRITER
First game: 27/09/05 - Huddersfield Town 1-0 Tranmere
Grounds visited watching Town: 43
Cult Hero: Andy Booth / Gary Roberts
Morgan is best known by his former Twitter persona of @HotlineBilling. Morgan has proven popular on Twitter and is looking to branch out and become a writer as well as podcaster and has signed scholarship forms with And He Takes That Chance. Will he be the first to make it through the AHTTC Academy System?
TAKES THAT FACT: Morgan’s aforementioned Twitter account grew exponentially as some Town fans thought it was the real Philip Billing account. You can check this out by searching for #accidentalbilling.
Nathan
@flyingPOTUS
FEATURE WRITER
First game: 31/05/04 - Manfield 0-0 Huddersfield Town 0 (1-4)
Grounds visited watching Town: 18
Cult Hero: Jon Worthington
Nathan is a relatively new writer who likes to report on historical people and events. Huddersfield Town with their rich history will provide Nathan with many stories and tales.
TAKES THAT FACT: Nathan’s brother was named after Marcus Stewart, which is a shame as his brother hates football!
Brady
@brady0894
PODCASTER & FEATURE WRITER
First game: - 23/08/08 - Huddersfield 1-3 MK Dons
Grounds visited watching Town: - 4
Cult Hero: Jordan Rhodes
A Town fan of 11 years, Brady wasn’t put off after his first game when Town capitulated at home to MK Dons. Brady is looking forward to inking his quill and writing features for And He Takes That Chance.
TAKES THAT FACT: Brady has interviewed Arctic Monkeys' drummer's (Matt Helders) mum!
