FPL GW4 Preview
GW3 was certainly frustrating, but these Gameweeks do happen, the important thing is to remain calm and do not rage Transfer off the back of it.
The three most highly owned Defenders scored 1 point between them, with Alexander-Arnold and Cancelo scoring 0 points and James scoring 1 point. Liverpool haven’t kept a clean sheet this season and none of their defenders have a return yet. Man City conceded 3 goals to Newcastle but they have kept clean sheets in their first 2 games, with Cancelo gaining an assist. The Chelsea back line is a concern, with James playing centre back, Koulibaly being Suspended for the weekend game hosting Leicester and they still haven’t signed another centre back, although Leicester’s Fofana does seem to be getting closer. James has 1 clean sheet and 1 goal.
My thoughts on these three players, and their defences in general, is to keep the faith with them. Liverpool are home to Bournemouth this week, I own both Alexander-Arnold and Robertson and have no desire to sell either ahead of this Fixture. Bad weeks will happen, but that does not make these bad players or bad assets to own.
A conundrum at the other end of the pitch, with Pep saying that Haaland won’t play 3 games a week. This is significant as Man City play 3 games a week between now and the World Cup. This includes European games, but there is no guarantee which games he will miss, and if he will come on at all when he does not start. The obvious move is to Kane, but he also has European games and Conte is just as prone to rotation.
I own Haaland and am considering the move to Kane, but at the moment I am holding off. Haaland and Man City have looked a lot better going forward than Spurs and all the data backs this up. My plan is to see how it plays out. Gameweek 5 is a midweek Fixture and Man City are home to Forest, where Haaland is a prime Captaincy pick, but he may also be rested. Kane has Forest this Gameweek. The consensus in the FPL community is to stick with Haaland. For now.
Looking ahead to Gameweek 4, Liverpool home to Bournemouth is the standout Fixture, with Salah the best Captaincy option. Arsenal home to Fulham is another standout, with Jesus being another great Captaincy shout. Kane at Forest is another great call, as is Haaland home to Crystal Palace. I would rank them in that order.
As far as Transfers go, there is real value in Brighton, Brentford and Leeds. For Brighton, Sanchez (GK), Dunk (D), Gross (M) and Welbeck (F) have all looked impressive. For Brentford, Raya (GK), Henry (D) and Toney (F) have looked good, and although the Midfielders are popular Transfers in, I would avoid them. For Leeds, Meslier (GK) and Midfielders Rodrigo, Harrison and Aaronson. They all have good Fixtures until the International Break between Gameweeks 8 and 9.
Transfers out, it is the 8 million Midfielders that again failed to show up last Gameweek. Saka, Mahrez and Mount have already gone down in Price. Arsenal’s Martinelli (£6.4) has been excellent, as have Arsenal. He and the Brighton, Brentford and Leeds Players mentioned are also good options.
A quick word of warning ahead of Gameweek 5; it is a midweek Fixture, so the Deadline is Tuesday 30th at 6:00pm.
But for Gameweek 4, Deadline is Saturday 20th August, 11:00am.
