FPL GW38 Preview

One final roll of the FPL dice as we approach the final Gameweek of the season.

Man City need a win to clinch the title if Liverpool also win, however if Liverpool win and City draw or lose then Liverpool will be crowned champions.

Chelsea and Spurs are fighting for top 3, and Arsenal are still in with a shout for top 4.

At the bottom, Norwich and Watford are already down so it is between Burnley and Leeds for the third spot, who are level on points but Burnley have a superior goal difference.

The last Gameweek of the season is always an interesting one. Delving into the stats from the previous few seasons there is consistently more goals, and in particular for the home side, in particular the top 6 sides against lower table sides.

This prime Fixture with this in mind is Chelsea at home to Watford. Defenders James and Alonso and midfielder Mount should be firmly on our Watchlists. Over the last 4 Gameweeks Watford have the worst defence statistically in the league.

Second to Watford for worst defences is Southampton, who travel to Leicester, so the Foxes are a team to look at. Midfielders Maddison and Barnes and forward Vardy are all great options.

Third on the list is Wolves, who travel to Liverpool. There is an injury doubt to Salah, so we will have to wait until the news from the Press Conference on this, but Diaz is a standout option from the Liverpool attack, with Mane also being a contender.

Norwich are next on the list, who play at home to Spurs, where Son is still closing in on the Golden Boot. The front three of Son, Kane and Kulusevski are all good picks. In defence, Sessegnon is a great pick, and Budget at just £4.3.

Man City face a solid Aston Villa side defensively, so a huge score probably isn’t on the cards, despite City needing the win to clinch the title.

I don’t think we can look past Chelsea, Liverpool, Leicester and Spurs for our transfers, and the same for the Captaincy. I don’t think there will be a standout option, which makes everyone a Differential. The safety pick is Son with Kane being close behind.

The Strategy for the last Gameweek is what you want to achieve. If you are happy with your rank and just want to protect it and not drop down the rankings, play it safe, Captain Son or Kane, don’t take any Hits, don’t go maverick. Alternatively if you do need a final push up the rankings then Captain a differential, maybe Mount or Vardy, take a Hit or two to stock up on assets.

The press conferences for team news have not yet taken place with all games being on Sunday, so be sure to keep an eye on these before you make your transfers.

A final word for the man of the season: Mo Salah. He picked up an injury in the FA Cup final and missed the midweek game at Southampton. Klopp may or may not give an update on him, however we must keep in mind Liverpool have the Champions League Final coming up, so Salah is not likely to be risked on Sunday if he is not fully fit. I would go further and say even if he is fully fit he won’t play 90 minutes to protect him for the Final, so we have a tough decision to make.

Do we transfer him out? The move from Salah to Son is an easy move with plenty of upside, with Son being a prime Captaincy pick and the £2+ saving will give you plenty to invest elsewhere in your side.

Good luck to all, remember the deadline this week is Sunday 22nd May, 2:30pm.
