FPL GW16 Preview
It’s surprising COVID hasn’t disrupted football more this season, but as we head into the festive period, it is now cause for FPL concern.
Spurs have been hit hard, with Emerson Royal, Ben Davies, Lucas Moura, Hueng-Min Son, Bryan Gil and Cristian Romero being among those effected. Their UEFA Europa Conference League Group G home fixture against Stade Rennais on Thursday was cancelled, with Sunday’s Premier League game against Brighton in doubt.
Leicester have also been effected, with Ademola Lookman, Daniel Amartey, Kelechi Iheanacho, Jannik Vestergaard, Ayoze Perez, Filip Benkovic and Vontae Daley-Campbell not travelling to Napoli, for COVID or illness.
The predicament for FPL managers is the potential blank Gameweek and what to do about those players missing (bearing in mind they will have a Double Gameweek for the rearranged fixture).
The money invested in Kane and Son are the biggest issues, whereas a £4.4 Davies is fine to bench.
With Man Utd’s run of games, Kane to Ronaldo is the obvious move, with Ronaldo costing just £0.2 more.
Son is harder to replace. Rashford or Sancho come in cheaper, but neither have impressed enough under the new Utd leadership of Rangnick. Jota of Liverpool, Bowen of West Ham and Bernardo of Man City all come in cheaper and are great options over the next few weeks.
As far as Captaincy goes, yes, Salah is first choice, but Ronaldo travelling to Norwich will match the Salah Captaincy percentage.
If there are any significant updates regarding cancellations I’ll post them in the Twitter thread for this article.
Deadline this week is Friday 10th December, 18:30m.
