FPL GW22 Preview

Hot on the heels of Double Gameweek 21 comes Double Gameweek 22.

And to be honest it’s pretty underwhelming. Here are the fixtures for the newly added games:

Brentford: Liverpool (A), Man Utd (H)

Brighton: Palace (H), Chelsea (H)

Burnley: Leicester (H), Watford (H)

Chelsea: Man City (A), Brighton (A)

Leicester: Burnley (A), Spurs (H)

Man Utd: Villa (A), Brentford (A)

Spurs: Arsenal (H), Leicester (A)

Watford: Newcastle (A), Burnley (A)

Chelsea, Man Utd and Watford all have two away games, with Brighton and Burnley having two home games.

The Watchlist for each team would be as follows:

Brentford: Toney

Brighton: Sanchez, Cucurella, Trossard

Burnley: Mee

Chelsea: Alonso, Mount

Leicester: Maddison

Man Utd: De Gea

Spurs: Reguilon, Kane

Watford: Dennis, King

Remembering that Brentford play Liverpool (A) and Man Utd (H), and looking further ahead, Leicester and Burnley have a poor run of fixtures up next. To fill a Free Hit from these potential targets does not really seem logical, especially with an eagerly awaited Liverpool Double coming up.

Another consideration is that single Gameweek sides have good fixtures. Liverpool face Brentford, West Ham play Leeds and Everton play Norwich. So those of us with Liverpool assets and who brought in Everton and West Ham assets for last week’s Double Gameweek should really consider sticking with the single fixtures rather than splurge on a Free Hit or Wildcard.

If we think about who is essential for this set of Double Fixtures, and therefore Captaincy options, with Son ruled out, Kane is the standout for Spurs. Ronaldo is an injury doubt and Man Utd haven’t yet clicked under new boss Rangnick. Leicester have no fit forwards, and the only other standout Fixture, and I’m using that term in the loosest sense of the word, is Watford. Josh King is the man to go for with injury concerns over fellow forward Dennis.

How many Double Gameweek players should we strive to have? 5 or 6 is good I would say. A Spurs and Brighton defender, De Gea if any Utd player, Kane, King, maybe Maddison or Mount.

It could be a case of Single Gameweekers outscoring Double Gameweekers, so I’d highly recommend keeping Hits to a minimum and keeping your Chips in tact.

Deadline this week is Friday 14th January, 18:30pm.
