FPL GW4 Preview

The International Break has passed, and so too has the Transfer Window, so it’s all eyes on GW4…

As mentioned previously, the return of forwards Lukaku (£11.5) and Ronaldo (£12.5) pose serious questions for FPL managers, so how do we know what is best to do? Do we bring them in? One of them? Remember that a lot of people’s Premium assets are midfielders Salah (£12.5) and Fernandes (£12.0), so a straight switch isn’t feasible.

For me, the ultimate metric to use if Fixtures.

Chelsea have a tough run for the next 3, with Aston Villa (H), Spurs (A) and Man City (H), before a favourable run of Southampton (H), Brentford (A), Norwich (H), Newcastle (A) and Burnley (H) from GW7.

Man Utd, by comparison, from GW7 play Everton (H), Leicester (A), Liverpool (H), Spurs (A) and Man City (H), so one tactic could be to switch from Lukaku to Ronaldo in GW7.

For the here and now, it’s Everton, Liverpool, Watford and Wolves who have good fixtures for the next few GWs.

Everton midfielder Demarai Gray (£5.6) and forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.2) have been standouts for the Toffees.

Unsurprisingly for Liverpool its Salah and defender Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5) who are catching the FPL eye. An injury to Roberto Firmino (£8.8 forward) means Diogo Jota (£7.6 midfield) should start alongside Salah and Sadio Mane (£11.9 midfield) in the Liverpool attack against a Leeds side who ship goals for fun.

Newly Promoted Watford’s Talisman Ismaila Sarr (£6.0 Midfield) is the standout, but forward Emmanuel Dennis (£5.2) is impressing up front, with a goal and an assist.

Wolves have been a conundrum so far, losing all 3 games 1-0, sitting joint bottom on points with 0. However, statistically midfielders Francisco Trincao (£5.9) and Adama Traore (£6.0) have been performing well in terms of creation and threat. If they can turn these stats into goals, with the help of forward Raul Jimenez (£7.4), they really could start climbing the table.

But…

Will these shiny new toys play?

Lukaku is a slight injury doubt, as is Calvert-Lewin, and Ronaldo only started training with Man Utd on Wednesday, so it isn’t 100% if either will start, be on the bench or ruled out completely.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said of Ronaldo: "He’ll definitely be on the pitch at some point, that’s for sure."

My two cents? If you brought Ronaldo in, Captain him. If you don’t, you will lose rank as people who do Captain him will score twice your score for owning him.

But whether you are Team RonaldNO, Team NO Salah, Team BruNO or Team… er, Lukak..NO? there are plenty of big decisions to be made.
