FPL GW18 Preview

What. A. Mess.

These last two Gameweeks you’d of been lucky to have fielded a full 11 without taking a huge hit. Covid is ramping up again and more fixture postponements are expected, so I thought I’d share my thoughts on getting through this FPL period.

Firstly, FPL is a game that’s meant to be a bit of fun. Each Gameweek is a new challenge to navigate, relish the challenge!

Secondly, remember, everyone is in the same boat. If you have 8 players, so have a lot of other FPL managers. You are not alone in this predicament.

Take one Gameweek at a time, despite games being tomorrow, they can still be called off, so make your transfers for the upcoming gameweek and no further forward.

Which links in to another point - leave your transfers as late as possible to have the most up to date information. Currently, the deadline is Saturday 13:30, so if you can wait until 13:00, it’ll definitely benefit you.

If you have any players from the first game, Aston Villa v Burnley, it might be an idea to Vice Captain them, in case any Sunday game gets postponed.

Speaking of which, Salah plays Sunday, so to Captain Salah and Vice Captain another Liverpool asset and the game being called off would be bad news. Spurs have had their last 2 games postponed so the Liverpool fixture could be postponed yet.

As for transfers this week, I’d concentrate on playing players, so for the cautious, from Aston Villa, Matty Cash (£5.0, Defender), John McGuinn (£5.8, Midfield) and Ollie Watkins (£7.7, Forward) seem like the best picks. Phil Foden of Man City (£8.0, Midfield) against Newcastle looks a great option, but as usual, Pep Rotation, so remember that gamble if you decide to go for him. Bukayo Saka (£6.2, Midfield) is Arsenal’s main man, who play a Leeds side on the back of the 7-0 thumping to Man City, which I’m sure we all enjoyed.

Captaincy, Salah as usual. Any Man City player should do well in a great fixture.

At the time of writing this (Friday afternoon, with coffee and a Christmas film - ‘Christmas in Connecticut’ for those of you interested) there are only FIVE fixtures still on:

Aston Villa v Burnley

Leeds v Arsenal

Wolves v Chelsea

Newcastle v Man City

Spurs v Liverpool

Deadline this week is Saturday 18th December, 13:30m.
