FPL GW1 Preview
The wait is finally over. Come the Friday night deadline at 18:30, the 2021/22 FPL season will officially begin.
Over the 38 Gameweeks we’ll be looking at the best Captaincy options, best and worst fixtures and highlight the key injuries, suspensions and talking points going into each set of fixtures.
Liverpool’s trip to Norwich is a fixture that certainly jumps out. A copy of the 2019/20 season opener, Liverpool came out 4-1 victors on the night, and a potential scoreline could be on the cards again.
Norwich have lost midfield Talisman Emi Buendia £6.5 to Aston Villa and will be hoping Teemu Pukki £6.0 will be fit enough to start, having played just 73 minutes in Pre-Season.
Mo Salah £12.5 is a standout Captaincy option for Liverpool, who scored a hat-trick in last seasons opener against Leeds.
Elsewhere, Chelsea welcome London neighbours Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge. The impending arrival of Romelu Lukaku will come too soon for GW1, so Kai Havertz £8.5 is a great option for Captaincy, who could start as the furthest forward attacker for Chelsea. Hakim Ziyech £7.5 looks set to miss out with an injury. Patrick Viera’s Palace side have a host of missing players, including Nathan Ferguson £4.5, Eberechi Eze £6.0 and new signings Michael Olise £5.5 and Conor Gallagher £5.5.
One to watch is the season opener, as Brentford host Arsenal, with last seasons Championship top scorer Ivan Toney looking to pick up where he left off. Priced at just £6.5, he could be a real bargain.
Liverpool’s Andy Robertson £7.0 suffered an injury that will likely keep him out for 6-8 weeks potentially, opening the door for Kostas Tsimikas £4.0 to step in at left back, offering real value in the Liverpool defence, who could have both Virgil Van Dijk £6.5 and Joe Gomez £5.0 ready to feature according to Jurgen Klopp.
